Mactan–Cebu International Airport’s Terminal 2 was completed in 2018 in order to accommodate the ever-increasing tourist traffic to Cebu. The terminal’s architecture is considered to compliment the resort nature of the Cebu area and heavily uses exposed timber in the ceiling. Construction is to begin this year on a second runway with the original being built in 1956 by the United States Air Force as an emergency airport for Strategic Air Command bombers.
