Bantayan Island has an old church in the square of Bantayan town founded in 1580, and of which the current structure’s construction began in 1839, finishing around 1863. The church has extensive ceiling murals, stained glass windows, and a replica of the Santo Niño de Cebú. The church is undergoing gradual renovation but still hosts Sunday services.

The church houses a replica the Santo Niño de Cebú – the original of which can still be seen in Cebu City in the Basílica Menor del Santo Niño de Cebú…the history of the Santo Niño is quite storied as it is an artifact brought to The Philippine Islands by Magellan himself in the year 1521…
